DESCRIPTION:This course introduces the Maqasid Methodology as an Islamic framework for addressing questions and challenges within Islamic psychology. Rooted in Quranic and Prophetic teachings\, the methodology equips researchers and practitioners with tools to integrate Islamic principles into the study of human behavior\, mental health\, and overall well-being. \nThis course is offered in cooperation with the Maqasid Institute\, the Al-Balkhi Institute of Islamic Psychological Studies and Research\, and the International Students of Islamic Psychology\, combining expertise and resources from leading institutions in the field. \nDesigned for postgraduate students and researchers\, the course provides a critical alternative to contemporary psychological approaches\, highlighting the limitations of modern frameworks and offering a holistic\, spiritually-aligned methodology.

SUMMARY:Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah vs. Conventional Perspectives: Examining the Eligibility Criteria for Regulatory Capital Instruments
DESCRIPTION:This lecture examines the intersection between Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah perspective and conventional perspective with respect to wealth protection and the stability and resilience of financial systems in absorbing shocks and maintaining vital services. \n  \nUsing regulatory capital instruments as a case study\, the lecture highlights both the similarities in the overall objectives of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah and conventional perspectives\, and the stark differences regarding eligibility criteria for these instruments. Specifically\, the lecture will focus on four criteria: the nature of the instrument used in structuring AT1 regulatory capital\, the hierarchy of the instrument in relation to CET1 and other instruments\, the nature of profit distribution and coupon payments\, and the loss absorption mechanisms. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nDr. Madaa Mustafa \nIndependent Islamic Finance Consultant  \nMadaa Munjid served as a division director in the Department of Participation Finance. His responsibilities included acting as a point of reference for Sharīʻah-related issues\, and conducting research on Sharīʻah-related topics in participation finance. Prior to joining the Department of Participation Finance\, he was a member of the secretariat at the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB). In this role\, he oversaw the Sharīʿah review process of the IFSB Standards\, Guidance Notes and Technical Notes and represented the IFSB in meetings with the Sharīʿah Board of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group\, deliberating on potential Sharīʿah issues with the members of the Sharīʿah Board. He currently works as an independent consultant for Sharīʻah-related matters in Islamic finance. \nMadaa obtained his PhD in Islamic finance from the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF) and his second Master’s Degree in Islamic Finance from International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF). His first Master’s Degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in (Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh).
